MONTGOMERY CHURCH
...."I’m a big fan of great songs and great singers, but it’s the sheer authenticity here that really speaks to me - the honesty is powerful and the sweetness sublime.”....
- Shane Nicholson (ARIA and Golden Guitar Award Winning Artist)

Cielle Montgomery and James Church are 'Montgomery Church’ - a blend of acoustic folk, americana and bluegrass influences, grown and distilled in the Snowy Mountain ranges of country New South Wales. With their organic union of dobro, guitar, harmony vocals, and thoughtful songwriting, this captivating duo are enthralling in their dynamic intimacy and embrace all that is subtle, spacious, and sensitive.

Since their formation in 2016, Montgomery Church have been quietly but quickly gathering a fan base who site their undeniable chemistry as a rare and beautiful thing to see live.

"Montgomery Church are like the Australian version of Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings but if Gillian was the daughter of Allison Krauss...sitting on a porch, with tea not whiskey...I'm a tad obsessed...The most graceful duo literally gracing stages right now."
- Fanny Lumsden (Golden Guitar Award Winner & ARIA Award Nominee)

Their highly anticipated new album "In the Shadow of the Mountain" which earned them 2 nominations in the prestigious 2019 Toyota Golden Guitar Awards, is the duo's first collective offering. An 11 track summary of their unique qualities and that special intangible ‘something’ that all the great duos possess. A sort of ‘alignment’ that speaks a greater volume than the sum of their parts. “Our goal was to create something ‘honest’ that sounded just like us. We want the listener to feel like they’re at a live show or sitting in our lounge room at home when they hear the album” says Cielle.

Recorded mostly live in an old barn in country NSW, with Producer Syd Green at the helm, the duo present something raw and tangible, with the listener invited to ‘hear the room’ and experience the space between the music. The buzz of the strings, the flow of the breath, the creak of a chair and the whir of the crickets add a depth of character.

.."When listening to the beautiful acoustic sounds and instrumentation, you can’t help but draw comparisons to the great Allison Krauss and Union Station. It’s so exciting to hear new artists stand up and run their own race”...
- Aleyce Simmonds (Golden Guitar Award Winning Artist)

Cielle and James have toured extensively throughout Australia over the past few years, playing numerous sold out shows, house concerts and festivals including Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival, National Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Groundwater Country Music Festival, Bendigo Blues & Roots, Inland Sea of Sound Festival, Summer Hill Folk Festival, Foggy Mountain Bluegrass Festival, St Albans Folk Festival, Maleny Music Festival, Hill End Arts Festival, Escape ArtFEST, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival, Yackandandah Folk Festival, Cobargo Folk Festival, Cullulleraine Music Festival, The Great Alpine Pick, Wingham Akoostic Festival, Peak Music Festival, as well as appearing at Woodford Folk Festival and Americanafest in Nashville.

Currently, they are working on their second album with Producer / Engineer Erick Jaskowiack who has produced 7 GRAMMY nominated recordings and worked with the likes of Crooked Still, Darryl Scott, Alison Brown, Russ Barenberg & Della Mae!
'Where The Quiet Can Hide' is due for release in early 2021.

..."I was at the Dixie Chicks concert this time last week - and I've got to say, I loved your show even more!!!!”……..
- Margaret - Mirboo House Concert 2017
