Raised on the land in the small country town of Cooma, NSW listening to artists such as Neil Young, John Williamson, Emmylou Harris and John Denver, there was never any doubt that country music was in Cielle Montgomery's blood. Nowadays however, as an artist who feels very much at home in the alt. country / americana / folk scene, Cielle's musical influences range from an eclectic mix of genres that include, Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, John Moreland, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss, John Prine, Norah Jones, Brandi Carlile and many more….
In her relatively short time on the scene, Cielle has proven that she is not interested in resting on her laurels. Since the release of her debut EP "Walking Free" in early 2016, she has graced the stages of many major music festivals, including the Woodford Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Americanafest in Nashville and Queenscliff Music Festival, cementing her place as one of the premier vocalists and songwriters in Australian acoustic music.
After a very successful year touring with Songwriter & Dobro player, James Church, the decision was made to officially join forces and become Montgomery Church in early 2017. James and Cielle have since continued to tour the countryside and are fast establishing themselves in the Australian Folk and Americana scene. In May of 2018, they released their debut album "In the Shadow of the Mountain", which earned the duo 2 nominations in the prestigious Golden Guitar Awards.
