James began learning folk and blues guitar at the age of 7 in his hometown of Bathurst. When he took a chance on a Jerry Douglas album he picked up in the local music shop, James' fate was sealed. At the age of 16 he began playing square neck dobro and over the next ten years he developed a sound that is both distinct, and sought after.
"Arguably Australia's best Dobro maestro..." (Country Update Magazine 2018)
In his short career, James has already appeared on a wide range of albums by award winning artists such as Alan Caswell, Cielle Montgomery, Fanny Lumsden, Brad Butcher, Harmony James, Felicity Urquhart, Mike McClellan, The Sunny Cowgirls, Aleyce Simmonds, Brad Cox, Innocent Eve, The Weeping Willows and The Bushwackers, as well as playing some of the great festivals around Australia, including Blue Mountains Folk Festival and Woodford Folk Festival.
